This design is an American Indian symbol of a butterfly. The life cycle of a butterfly represented "Everlasting Life." I placed this symbol on the teardrop shape to symbolize the tears shed by Cherokee Indians when ruthlessly herded from their homelands to reservations. Their journey became known as the "Trail of Tears." |
