I am Roger
Hopper, a Scrimshaw artist since 1983. I use fossil ivory from
the Wooly Mammoth and Mastodons that have been extinct for more
than 10,000 years as well as man-made materials to create original
carvings and scrimshaw etchings. I then use the original piece
to develop a mold from which our polymer reproductions are hand
cast. By using only fossil ivories and man-made materials we can
honestly say "These Scrimshaw products truly do not endanger any
wildlife."
Many of the products you will see are the result of combining
two totally different art forms, Sculpture as well as Scrimshaw.
The combining of these two art forms result in some of the most
beautiful and unique Scrimshaw reproductions available today...and
because of our process...some of the most affordable as well.
We
have tried to be as accurate as possible in providing you with
images that show our pieces in true-to-life size on the individual
product pages you view.
When we say "shown at actual size", this
is true.
However, some items may appear larger
or smaller depending on individual computer monitor and system
settings which is why we also provide
you with the actual physical dimensions of the piece.
We hope you enjoy our site and hope to hear from you soon!
